Why did Andrew Luck retire so early and abruptly?

Daniel Kennedy

If you didn't know, the colts vetran signal caller Andrew Luck announced retirement in a press conference after the Indianapolis Colts loss vs the Buffalo Bills 16-24. Luck was still relatively young, with still at least 5 years left in him.

For the Colts organization esecially, this was a blow. This leaves them without a solid starting quarterback just a few weeks before the season starts.

(earlier today the Colts signed Bryan Hoyer. This claim still applies)

But that still leaves the question, Exactly why would Andrew retire so early? In his press conference he stated he played football for the fun, and the injury's and constant pain made him lose desire for the game, and that is perfectly understandable. Kind of. I'm sure the Colts would have much preferred he tell them ahead of time, and then played this final season, giving the Colts a gameplan for next season.

Some potential options for the Colts going forward in this years offseason is to draft either the Alabama Heisman candidate Tua Tagovailoa or the Georgia product, Jake Fromm. a backup plan if both of these players are taken ahead of them in to try to pry Drew Brees away from the Saints this offseason if he doesnt retire.
