There have been many amazing players who have joined the NFL over its 100 year sports legacy. It takes a lot of work to make it into today's NFL, But the reward is one of the highest paying jobs in the world. With the new NFL season just starting up, here are my picks for the top five of all time.
5. Deion Sanders
The controversy on this list is going to be high, with a lot of these players in very close contention of one another. This is the highest ranked defensive player on my list, being Deion "Primetime' Sanders. Primetime was the best 3-way player ever, and most likely will be in the coming years. When you have someone who can snag balls on boths sides, and explosively return the ball like no other, you've got most of your team in just one person. Over his 14 year career, he played 188 games, with a total of about 1000 tackles, 53 interceptions, for over 1000 return yards.
4. Barry Sanders
Wow, a lot of great Sanders in the NFL. Also playing in the same era, Barry was a running back who was responsible for the popularization of the juke move. Barry is number 3 on the list of career rushing yards, with 15,269 all time, playing for the lions his whole career, over a total of 9 years between 1989 and 1998. Barry had the ability to absolutely takeover a game, and if you were on the opposing team, you would have to LOOK OUT.
3. Jerry Rice
The. Greatest. Receiver. Of. All. Time. You cant argue it. Jerry Rice picked up the incredible statline of 1,549 receptions, a NFL record 22,895 receiving yards, a whopping 14.8 yards per reception, and near 200 touchdowns. Jerry Rice played 20 years in the NFL, beating out another 49ers legend, Joe Montana. Rice played for 3 teams over his career, the longest being the 49ers, and then the Raiders and Seahawks.
2. Jim Brown
I can not tell you how many websites ranked him as the best player of all time when i was doing my research. No. In my opinion, its just like Basketball. if Kareem Abdul-Jabar played again today, he would not be nearly as good, simply for the fact that the league has more talent now. But i will admit that he easily was the best player of his time.
1. Tom Brady
There was really no other appropriate spot for him. As i said earlier, all of these players are in really close contention of each other. I had to go a quarterback at number 1, and who's better than Tom Brady? I personaly don't like him but you can not argue with this mans stats. He has 71,119 passing yards on his career and 522 passing touchdowns on just 171 interceptions, with his career passer rating being 97.8, a teriffic score.
